The New Moon in Pisces season on February 19 supports creative epiphanies and merging with others (spiritually, energetically, bodily, romantically, and more!) I will do my part by offering a couple of digital sessions where art and body meet history and openness. If you need some creativity in your life, check out these sessions on February 26 or 27th.
This week will be rich with two very different events. First, a disability-centered curated reading series. Then, the following day an intergenerational Detroit-legacy gathering. I’ll be sharing a few of my own pieces in each session. But in both, you will hear from a delightful tapestry of voice and vibration. You are are invited, welcome, and encouraged to listen and or join in the open mic(s).
Access-Oriented Lit- a reading series
Feb 26 3-4:30pm EST
I was asked to be a reader at Access Oriented Lit Reading #2 curated by Leigh Sugar. This series will feature a dynamic and ever-changing line up of writers who self-identify with disability, chronic illness, madness or many of the other ways that ableism impacts human lives. There will be ASL and Zoom Captioning. It is an ongoing conversation to meet the access and inclusion needs of everyone who participates. Feedback is always welcome!
For my poets and writers in this network, there will be opportunities to connect for future readings, which will continue throughout the year.
Other featured readers will be Ashna Ali, Jermaine Greaves, Mal Profeta, and Gabi Shiner
Horizons in Poetry
Feb 27 7-9pm EST
I’m honored to be invited back to co-host for Horizons in Poetry, a dynamic online Detroit-based intergenerational poetry reading – for its second year! Every session we learn about the Cass Corridor as a hot spot for radical creativity, and we hear from poets and writers whose lives have been touched by Ron Allen’s creative and spiritual genius.
The Ron Allen Project is a dynamic creative expression of Ancestor veneration and honors cultural histories of Detroit that are in danger of being erased. We are links in a great chain of community creativity, and it’s always a powerful experience to witness.
“One individual who embodied the ethos of the Cass Corridor, nurturing the arts as a form of survival was Ron Allen. After Vietnam, Ron returned to Detroit to deal with schizophrenia, addiction and diabetes. He worked tirelessly in the sobriety community.”
Next week’s event will feature Roberto Warren, Multidisciplinary Artist and musician. Roberto will share from his personal manuscript, The Village. My Co-host for the event will be Ruby Woods - Singer, Songwriter, Poet, Ritualist.
Join us February 27 from 7-9pm EST! Come on down whether you are from Detroit or not! Every session includes an open mic where writers of all genres and ages are invited to share their work.
